Eddie and Governor Bredesen Announce Grant For Local Parks!

NASHVILLE--Governor Phil Bredesen and Representative Eddie Yokley announced more than $450,000 in grants to be awarded to local parks in Representative Yokley’s District.
Greene County was selected to receive a $425,000 grant from the Local Parks and Recreation Fund. These funds will be used to renovate and expand existing parks, as well as to create new recreation areas.
“We are very proud of our parks and outdoor areas in this community.” Said Representative Yokley. “These funds will ensure that we keep our parks beautiful while also helping us create new outdoor areas we can all enjoy.”
In Cocke County, the town of Parrottsville will receive $39,000 to acquire property to develop Parrottsville Park, which will include tennis and basketball courts. "These grants will enhance and expand special places like parks, greenways and recreational facilities that are set aside for the enjoyment of our state's citizens and visitors alike," said Bredesen.
The Local Parks and Recreation Fund Grant Program was established by the General Assembly in 1991 to ensure that local governments are provided with funds to purchase land for parks, natural areas, greenways and recreational facilities.
The ceremony to award the grants will be held on September 4th, at 1:00pm at the Nashville Public Library, Main Branch. |

Eddie Endorsed by The Tennessee Teachers!

Earlier this month the Tennessee Teachers Association endorsed Representative Eddie Yokley. Eddie has worked hard to improve teacher pay, he has fought to expand lottery scholarships, and bring more Pre-K classrooms to our schools.
When asked about the endorsement Representative Yokley said "We need an education system that helps prepare Tennesseans for the kinds of high paying jobs that will be available in the global economy. That requires that we help kids early in life and continue to support them even after graduation--teachers are an important part of that commitment and we must give them the help they need"
Jerry Winters, TEA's manager of government relations said Rep. Yokley received the organization's support based on his past support of education issues. He said, "Rep. Yokley clearly understands the problems facing public schools and has a proven record in support of issues facing education and public school employees."
The Tennessee Education Association is the state's largest professional organization representing over 55,000 teachers, school administrators and school support personnel.

Representative Yokley Optimistic that Volkswagen Plant Will Bring Jobs to Our Community!

The announcement that Volkwagen AG, Europe's biggest automaker, has chosen Chattanooga for its new U.S. plant is not only great news for that Tennessee city and this state generally.
Local leaders this week expressed the unanimous hope that the major economic stimulus the $991.4 million, 2,000-employee Volkswagen plant will bring to Chattanooga will be felt here as well when the plant starts production in 2011.
State Rep. Eddie Yokley, D-11th, of Greene County, said he expects the VW plant in Chattanooga "will open the opportunity for local auto parts plants to bid" to supply parts to it, which could result in increased employment here.
Representative Yokley said he expects placing of VW's major plant in Chattanooga will result in construction of "all kinds of feeder plants" in this region.
Representative Yokley noted that Greeneville and Greene County are home to several auto parts plants that could benefit when the big VW plant contracts for the many parts it will need.
